Decision-Making in Large scale agile development
Decision-making is crucial to the success of software development projects. Coordination becomes significantly more challenging in large-scale agile environments, which typically involve multiple teams and over 50 people [1, 2]. While retaining the adaptability and responsiveness that agile approaches encourage, teams must make decisions fast and cooperatively [3].
When individual team outputs are not adequately integrated, coordination gaps between teams can lead to misunderstandings, unnecessary rework, and even systemic failures [3, 4]. The exceptional requirements of large-scale agile environments, where striking a balance between team autonomy and organizational alignment is particularly challenging, are frequently overlooked by current decision-making frameworks [3, 4]. Despite their structured approach and proven success in business environments [5, 6], leadership models such as Vroom-Yetton [7] are still largely unexplored in this context.
The purpose of this research topic is to examine the current decision-making process in large-scale agile software development and identify the primary obstacles that ARiSE. Additionally, we investigate how structured models, such as Vroom-Yetton, can be applied to agile software environments and offer strategies for enhancing decision-making processes.
